Stomach and back pain

What causes stomach and back pain?
Having back and stomach pain at the same time can have several causes. The pain and ache are caused by the body’s pain receptors (nociceptors) which react to stimuli and send signals to our central nervous system where they are interpreted as pain.
Most of the time, it is a coincidence that you get stomach and back pain at the same time. However, you should be aware that there are serious conditions that can cause simultaneous back and stomach pain. Pancreatitis, IBS, and fascial tightening are some examples.
Why do I have stomach and back pain at the same time?
Most people experience back pain at some point in their lives. It is often the result of performing various movements suddenly and incorrectly so that the back becomes overstretched. Heavy lifting with straight legs and a bent back is a common cause of back pain. All the strain is then placed on the vertebrae of the back instead of being distributed to the legs. An inactive lifestyle is also a common cause of back pain. A lot of sitting makes the hip flexor muscles stiff and they contract the whole lumbar spine. The problem is often found in people who have a sedentary job, drive a lot and horse riders.
Stomach pain can originate from several different causes. Often you can link stomach pain to something you have eaten or drunk. Food sensitivities can irritate the intestines and cause stomach pain as the shape of the stool changes and gas formation increases. A stressful lifestyle can also be a cause of stomach problems.
What is stomach and back pain a symptom of?
Most of the time, it is harmless to have stomach and back pain at the same time. It may be the fascia in the body that has become compacted and less elastic and can cause pain. Most of our pain receptors are located in the fascia. If the fascia becomes more dense, the pressure on the pain receptors will increase. These will then signal pain to our central nervous system. Studies have shown that the thoracolumbar fascia, which connects the back to the abdomen, can spread tension between the muscles in these areas.
Pancreatitis, IBS and menstrual problems can also cause aches and pains in the stomach and back at the same time.
Stomach and back pain during pregnancy
During pregnancy, a common cause of stomach and back pain is the high level of progesterone, which increases gas production. Progesterone causes muscles to relax, including those surrounding the intestines. This makes food digestion slower and more gas develops. .
Ectopic pregnancies can also cause stomach and back pain at the same time.
When and where should I seek treatment for simultaneous back and stomach pain?
If you have stomach and back pain, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible to rule out serious illness.
If your symptoms are due to overuse of muscles and fascia structures, fascia treatment at Fascia Clinics can help. It is a good idea to seek help as soon as possible to avoid the development of compensatory sequelae that can make the pain and aches worse.
How is the treatment of simultaneous back and stomach pain done?
The FasciaClinics analyze the body’s imbalances to see what may have caused the problems. They correct the pelvis and relieve tension in the abdomen and back. The spine is balanced and pressure is relieved from the legs. The gentle vibrations also get the flow going in the fascia so that nutrients and other substances can flow in and out of the cells. Tension and resistance are reduced and whole body mobility is increased. This reduces aches and pains in the back and stomach. The treatment does not hurt but is rather experienced as very relaxing.
