Pain in the shoulder

Causes of shoulder pain
The shoulder joint is made up of two joints, the clavicle (AC) joint, which connects the clavicle to the scapula, and the shoulder joint itself, which connects the humerus to the scapula. The bone ends of the joint are covered by articular cartilage.
The shoulder joint has a shallow socket and is therefore an unstable joint, which means that it dislocates more easily than other joints. This characteristic also means that it is relatively easy to get back into the joint, but in connection with this, small injuries and too much stretching of fascia structures in the joint occur, where ligaments, joint capsule, articular cartilage, tendons, etc. can be damaged. This can lead to inflammation and eventually to osteoarthritis, frozen shoulder or other painful problems that cause reduced mobility in the shoulder.
The shoulder joint does not have to dislocate to cause injury and pain. Other forms of trauma, overload and repetitive strain, even if mild, can also cause inflammation and pain in the shoulder
In a healthy joint, articular cartilage and other tissues are constantly breaking down and new tissue is continually being built up, keeping a healthy balance of breakdown and build-up. Inflammation in the joint can cause the cartilage to break down faster than it builds up, resulting in osteoarthritis.
The fascia becomes denser, it thickens, resulting in higher friction and impaired gliding function with limited mobility of the joint. This can then result in frozen shoulder. Narrowing that presses on nerves going to the arm and hand can also occur, and this can cause problems with tingling and numbness in the arm and hand.

Treatment for Shoulder Pain
Tape shoulder
Taping the shoulder can be useful to stabilize the shoulder and to stimulate disabled muscles to work. You can also buy a shoulder protector if you don’t want to tape your shoulder.
How to tape the shoulder?
There is of course more than one way to tape your shoulder, but a simple and effective way to tape the shoulder joint for increased stability is to do this:
1.Tape from just below the collarbone out over the shoulder and down towards the arm, do the same from the back side at the beginning of the shoulder and cross the first tape strip.
2. tape from both strips over the shoulder so that all the strips are bound together, not too tight but not too loose either. It should provide stability but not rigidity, therefore you should also use a tape with stretch. See picture below:

Exercises for the shoulder
There are many exercises you can do to keep your shoulders mobile. Examples of exercises:
Pull your shoulder blades back towards the center of your spine and hold that position for 10 seconds, repeat the exercise several times.
Raise your shoulders and then lower them in forward and backward rotation.
Lift your arm forward and circle your arm in front of you.
If you find it difficult to lift your arm to the side, stand next to a wall and put your hand against the wall and climb with your fingers as high as you can.
Frequently asked questions about Shoulder injuries
Why do I have pain in my shoulder?
You have probably overstressed your shoulder by performing exercises you were not trained and prepared for to an excessive extent. You may also have injured your shoulder through trauma.
Why does my shoulder hurt when I do bench press?
The most common reason is that you perform the exercise with poor technique. First, learn how to perform the exercise correctly and start with light weights and slowly increase over time. The muscles in the shoulder compensate for muscles in the chest.
Why do I get shoulder pain when I play golf?
You have probably started too intensively without slowly getting your body used to it and building up your shoulder and shoulder strength.
Sleeping position and shoulder pain?
Lying on a sore shoulder can make it worse. Try to get used to lying on your back, which is gentler and more relaxing for your shoulders.
How to get rid of pain in the shoulder?
Moving your shoulders is important, but in moderation. Light exercises to improve mobility, not hard training. Try treatment at a FasciaClinic, which can increase mobility and relieve pain.
Pain in your left arm and shoulder?
May indicate a serious illness, so seek emergency care, especially if there is simultaneous chest pain radiating into the left arm.
